ONE:
Admit to your mistakes. Just say "Yes, I did ................................. <---- insert misdeed of consequence here.
TWO
Define the mistake as intentional or truly accidental. If intentional, explain the initial reason for those intentions. If accidental, no explanation other than it was a mistake that was not intentional is necessary.
THREE
Apologize. Apologize for making the mistake. Apologize for temporarily having intentions that were misguided leading to the subsequent action.
FOUR
Take action to make amends. Do whatever you can to repair any damages that were inflicted due to your actions or inactions. Actions speak louder than words, so after the words, take action, period.
FIVE
Forgive others for their mistakes or misguided actions. If you want to be forgiven, then you too must be able to forgive others.
SIX
Accept yourself as a flawed human being. If you're human, you're flawed, period. When we deny our imperfections, we deny being human. We're all imperfect, but we can do our best to accept those imperfections and deny egotistical desires to appear superior and above the human condition.
SEVEN
Accept the flawed self, but make sure you don't continue to use the human factor as an excuse to repeat the offenses. If you're truly sorry, you'll avoid repeating the same mistakes or offenses. If you find yourself constantly apologizing for the same thing or repeating the same offensive actions, then you're just an asshole, period, and you deserve the vilification from others and the verified stamp of REPULSIVE and undesirable that you've earned all by yourself.
